Who Do Men Say that I am? Inspired by the Book of John

The Word came among us, but we knew him not.

Who is God? Is Jesus God? With information at our finger tips and the different modalities of dispensing information, humans have become more self-seeking and liberated as they seek to understand themselves and the identity of the invisible hands that seeem to direct their daily circumstances. Interestingly, as humanity becomes more inquisitive and hungry for knowledge about their existential selves, hidden hands of censorship of thoughts and access to knowledge seem to lurk behind every inquiry and expressed thought. This begs the questions even more, “Who are we and “Who is God?” and more profoundly, “Who is Jesus?”

For many of us, God represents the giver of good things and satan represents all that is evil. It is said that satan was created by God as one of his chosen and most radiant archangels who became jealous of His creator and staged an attempted coup before being cast out of heaven with his troop. This eviction has left him enraged as said in the scriptures, hence his desire to deceive humanity so they too can fall and reap condemnation. That narration of human existence has been the bedrock on which Christianity and other religions rest.

Think about the juxtaposed portrayal of God and Satan below. Satan was ready to war from the get go and seems to have pulled out all his arsenals. As technology unfolds on Mother Earth, and as time as we know it wind down, boundaries have become seamless and goggles thrown off for an all out onslaught. Yet humanity, still in limbo using physical eyes to view a spiritual battle for souls that began in Eden, resolved through the cross and heading for the final showdown. Instilling fear seems to be the ultimate tool of Satan who has all the tools to magnify this fear. Breaking human hearts and spirits seem to be his most utilized strategy. Can you imagine how easily a heart without God’s spirit will crumble under such attack? If the war originates in the spirit how can guns, vaccines or gadgets be used to fight it? I am thinking that everyone who accepts that they, through Adam is originally made a spiritual being needs to seek a personal relationship with God, especially now based on the way life has been unfolding lately.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord; thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” KJV

Revelation 12:12

Woe to the inhabiters of the Earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth he has but a short time.

With access to technology and the flow of knowledge, plus the extra time on our hands due to the total global lock down of human movement since early 2020, I found some time to listen to biblical scriptures that I have listened to umpteenth times but was usually too busy to process and internalize. Follow me on this inward journey.

Who is God and Who is Jesus?

The trinity explanation of who is God was never quite clear to me although I know that God is real and supreme. My knowing of a supreme power is more personal and rooted in my being so I never really resolved that question of God, the supreme being as ‘trinity in unity’ or Father, Son and Holy Ghost’ of the Christian Godhead principle. I remember asking a ‘man of the cloth’ to explain the ‘trinity,’ and the brisk movement of his head and the way he skirted around it had made me uneasy. Thanks to ready access through modalities that are digestible and ubiquitous, I was able to listen to a repeat of the book of John and suddenly had my eureka moment of understanding about the Godhead explained in this scripture.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. John 1:1

I have long had the self knowledge that I am a spirit in a vessel called a body. The Bible which has been my man-u-al has explained at the very beginning that humanity was carved from the Earth in the likeness of God himself who blew breath into him and had given humankind the Earth as his or her habitation. But what is God like? It is generally accepted based on the manifestation of God in the Old and New Testament that God is spirit, but how do we reconcile Jesus, the man who lived on Earth as God’s son, if God is a spirit?

It seemed logical to me that if humans were genetically linked to the dust of the Earth then the natural habitat that would be ideal for the human body would be Gaia or Mother Earth. In explaining the genetics of man, Genesis also explained that woman was made using a part of Adam, the first born of the current human race to create a mate, a woman or wo(mb)man to be his companion and bearer of his fruits or children and in extension, mother to the Adamic race. It made sense that the mate was called a womb man or woman to remind future men that women were part of their own bodies so they should treat them well even as they treat themselves well. we do not have to go farto see that individuals and many religiously run societies did not fully understand the principle of ‘oneness’ established in this manual. The sacredness of this union ordainedas a spiritual exchange is lost even in some marital union, hence the chaos in families and societies.

Based on the account of early Adamic and Earth’s genesis, I posit that to live and operate on this Earth on a long term basis solely as spirit, a body is needed. It is therefore logical to think that for spiritual beings to live indefinitely on Earth they would need bodies to occupy to operate on this earthly environment. It is no wonder that the vast part of Jesus’ ministry involved casting out demons, healing the sick and feeding and teaching his flock. Some of us do not like to be thought of as flock or mindless sheep because of the out pouring of knowledge giving to humanity as promised in the scriptures, however, Jesus at that time was Rabbi and the good shepherd who was literally trying to rescue people blinded by pleasures and treasures of the physical world to the truth of God’s Kingdom within us.

In the Beginning

Genesis 1:26

And God said, ‘Let us make man in OUR own image, after our own likeness...’ This excerpt, clinches the argument that humans were made spirits but housed in flesh, referred to as God’s temple to adapt to the Earthly environment that suits their genetic composition. The soil or dust that man was carved from became the primary tool in his physical existence. God may have been talking to himself in his totality when he used in our own image. If this sounds outrageous, think of you having a conversation with yourself. To whom are you speaking when you have inner dialogue? Is it the flesh or body that the mind is addressing. Some argued that he was speaking to the angels, his earlier creations. The question is, where was he when he spoke the heaven and Earth into being? Did he take his angels from the third heaven down to Earth with him? If the Earth was without void or form then the idea that God came in his totality as a spirit, the Word who became flesh as the son is plausible unless we accept the idea that the spirit is solid and fixed in its form. We learned that as spirit God spoke from a burning bush or the clouds so it is easy to visualize him as spirit hovering over the waters and speaking his Earth into being then reasoning with his other states about creating mankind in their likeness of body and spirit to occupy the Earth he created.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in His own image. in the image of God created he him; male and female created He them.

Genesis 2:7

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breathe of life; and man became a living soul.

The Book of John

In John 1:1, the words say: In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.

John 1:2-3 say:

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

These verses literally explain that God and Jesus the Word are one and can exist as one unified being or composite existence working together as one.The dominance of the spirit over the Word that ‘was made flesh and dwell among us’ in John 1:14 seem to depend on what goal is being carried out. Consider that whenever humans meditate or pray, the spirit take dominance over the body or flesh but when they eat, it is the physical body that takes dominance but both body and spirit comprises the unified embodiment of that person. Simply put, Jesus and the Father or spirit was one at creation. When God the spirit said, let us make man in OUR own image, it makes perfect sense to say he was speaking to the Word who later came to Earth in the flesh to dwell among us. It could even be that the Word as flesh (Jesus) said those words speaking to his inner self, the spirit or Father.

Notice the word earth and heart are just letters rearranged. I think that when God said he would make man in his own image this was fulfilled when he breathed his spirit into the heart of man and made him a conscious soul and connected mankind unto himself. I believe a binding spiritual connection occurred here. Also, I think that God had some work to do to reconcile the Adamic seed that became compromised with the encounter in the garden of Eden between the first family and the Satan in the form of a serpent (as narrated in Genesis 1 and 2). This shape-shifting being had committed an atrocity so great that God condemned him to crawl on his belly from then on. It is said that the first family was banished from the garden to fend for themselves as farmers. Some scholars speculate that the eating of the fruit is symbolic to a sinister genetic contamination that had serious repercussion and have introduced sinful acts including the first sibling murder and perpetuation of this spirit of envy and murder among humans to this day.

God Came to Earth to Reconcile His People unto Himself

For God the spirit to appear among the people, He had to take on a form that human understood. This form would adapt well in the environment since the first man came from the Earth itself. He came in the form of a male child within a family to re-establish his relationship with fallen humanity on a level to which fallen man could relate A son, being a part of or emanating from a source, his father is plausible thinking, yet Jesus proclaiming in John !0:30 that, “I, and the Father are one.’ fell on deaf ears as the listeners sought to stone him to death for blasphemy. They were so far removed from the spirit given to Adam with his first breath that even though God came as one of them, they were using the flesh and the indwelling spirits raging within them to respond to His every manifestation and proclamation. Had He appeared as an adult man among the people, how would he explain his human roots or family lineage in a society structured on tribal lineages.Had his spirit entered an adult such as John the Baptist in order to carry out His redemptive mission, that would have been tantamount to demonic possession. Free choice ordained in the garden of Eden would have been infringed upon hence he came as a child declaring peace and actually being announced to humanity by then prophets long before his arrival.

My conclusion from this epiphany realized during the COVID19 lockdown is that God who is spirit made us in His image as spirits housed in flesh. He wanted us to inhabit Earth so we were genetically made from the dust of the Earth to which we return when the spirit leaves us at death. God breathed his spirit within us so we can be likened unto Him in our nature. He gave us this earth as a suitable environment to thrive and put his spirit in our hearts connected by conscious souls to keep in commune with him as he watched over and guided his creation. Whatever happened in the garden of Eden had derailed God’s plan for Adam’s race so to re-establish mankind as his people. He came in the flesh but was murdered by those who ‘knew Him not.’

Man and Woman become one in marriage and union

This knowledge that I am flesh on the outside but who I am really lies within the body or flesh that people see has helped me to understand the notion of a Godhead Trinity that Christianity ‘tried to explain to me.’ This understanding seemed like a divine revelation as it filtered through.

Simply put, we have heard many stories of people having out of body experiences where the sprit man leaves the body and floats around observing what was happening to their bodies below. If the created can exist as body separated from spirit then God the Creator who made the created in His image, should be more than glorified to create flesh for himself to fit in a habitat for him to be understood as being like man not only in spirit but in flesh. Also, if the created has become so far removed that they can only relate to what the eyes could see, then it made sense that God would need to fit into the norm of the world thinking that His creatures and satan have established in the world.

God made the Earth and laid out in the Old Testament how it should be governed (Books of Kings), how judicial systems should support government(Book of Judges) and how His people should relate to him by being in the world but not of the world, however, the scourges from the breech in the Garden of Eden persisted until He decided to leave His heavens to save His flock. It is understood that he would want to intervene and make adjustments so He could relate to the conditions of the world at the time of Jesus’ arrival. My last argument lies in the notion of ‘astral travel’ where New Agers are said to practice leaving their bodies during sleep to make trips outside the body for clandestine reasons or the thrill of pushing barriers of time and space. Again, if these events can happen to the created why would the Creator be confined to one state, just Spirit.

The truth is that the more we push barriers through technologies and other awakened awareness, the more plausible those contentious areas of the Bscriptures become opened to possibilities. Humanity is being awakened to the critical approach in understanding taken for granted dogmas as they construct meaning of reality through questioning and biblical research. Of course, this may throw a cog into the perception that knowledge is static and be should handed out packaged for human consumption, no question asked. Knowledge as a seat of power to be accessed by the worthy is now threatening seats of invisible power and equity in accesss and use is being questioned in mainstream discourse on every front.

Freedom of thoughts and speech though enshrined in world constitutions are threatened. Therefore, it is incumbent on each person to find his or her own truth of who God is and explore it until it is fully understood or revealed. Yes, God reveals himself through His words. He beseeches us to read His words to find knowledge and to call upon Him while he can still be found, hence this journey of inquiry and reflection.

My Final Thoughts about the Trinity: New Age Thought Connector

We know that God’s spirit was there in the beginning. Quantum science agrees that all is energy and we are all vibration forces that attract or repel based on our own vibration wave length in relation to stimuli around. The higher one’s vibration is the higher the dimension in which he or she operates. Why am I stating this scientific babble? Well, science has much to offer in helping us understand scriptures, however many theologians see science as the major tool used to refute biblical knowledge.

Whenever someone is heightened spiritually, physicality is blocked out or dimmed. Whenever I spend time in nature: among plants, birds, animals, in or near water, I experience heightened energy or vibration that releases hormones that trigger joy, peace and relaxation within. I become lighter, clearer in thoughts and more in tuned with the real self inside me. I would shut the world and its theatrics out and become one with God or being where He needs to take me in the spirit.. When someone pray or meditate in spirit and truth, He or she feels more fully alive; not bogged down with worldly matters of the five senses and the flesh. Sometimes, he or she gets taken to a spiritual plane or level where he or she feels fully charged, vibrating and ready for any battle. If mere humans can vibrate and experience reality beyond the five senses, then how much more can the supreme maker, the original source of all things spiritual, exist as spirit?

What state would God have adopted to reflect His highest glory as He spoke the world into being. He realized that Earth was the jewel in all his creation, so for each manifestation, the narrator in Genesis states, ‘He saw that it was good.’ My thoughts are that His vibration levels according to current scientific thoughts, would have gone off the scale. It is the positive arousal of the spirit that produces these high frequencies that lifts hearts, minds and souls so body can respond. Along this same line of thinking, let me add that to come to Earth only in a high vibration spiritual state would not fulfill the purpose for coming as humankind then was using the five senses and Mosaic laws as points of reference in relating to God.

The low vibrating flesh, visible to the five senses and understood as physical, observable and rational was more relatable then. They were mostly spiritually dead so they followed Jesus to be fed with the word as they renewed their spirits. Also, God the Spirit was ever in touch with the son protecting Him and speaking directly from heaven at times. In John when Jesus healed someone or referred to himself as being the Son of God, many unbelievers became incensed so Jesus started strategizing His miracles to get the crowd to see God through what He did. In the end, his portrayal of himself as God became too much of a threat to the hierarchy of knowledge and power at that time. His admission to His true identity cost Him his life as seen in John 17:1 states:  These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: In verse 24 -26 he again stated that he was there before the foundation of the world. He gave up the idea of trying to convince the crowd of God being the one who sent him as son to bring men back unto God. He prayed that those who believe him would have his spirit within them. Here the transitory nature of his being is applied.

Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.King James Version (KJV)

His exit from this realm allowed the Comforter or Holy Spirit to remain on Earth to guide mankind until he returns to reign as King over his people.

His death completed the redemption plan despite humankind’s dimness to their spiritual identities.

If humans drag themselves around while ignoring the nourishment of their true selves, their spirit, then they would have been attracting low vibrations through which demons could enter and operate from within. A human who is aware of the spirit within will sense when entities enter and chase them out. The human body was not created to entertain these low vibration entities who need bodies to exist in an earthly environment. Human choices and unawareness of the spirit within have opened doors even unknowingly to devils and demons. It behooves us to awake from our slumber and recognize our totality as we take our true positions as caretakers of this Earth as ordained by the Creator in His totality at creation.

Much of today's world has experienced what I will call fractured realities. As a result of the conditioning tools of education, religion, mainstream media and other agencies, realities that do not add up have shaped thought processes in Western societies. As we mature and with each positive or negative experience, we seek out a journey of renewal, truth and clarity to help us own our thinking. Lampstand2016 represents my note-taking as I seek my own truths and sense making, starting with the Bible. You may join me on this quest for meaning, renewal and personal truths.
