Tale speaks of Eve’s ill evil
Don’t make me the master of every ill
I am but a gullible woman who’d never kill
I’ve taken no pill and avoid bills
still, don’t make me evil
I was the victim of jealous vile will d-evil.
who dissed Eve or deceived me to pen
humankind on earth’s crust.
The garden of E-den was the twist, fate’s will
No pen, no den was of my intent so
Evil is a misnomer, not whom I represent.
Think of me when you believe, receive,
conceive, not when you deceive. Evil is
the d-evil’s ill not mine, not Eve’s.
2 Timothy 1 :7 “For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind.”
How comforting are these words today? This sobering thought begs the question, if God did not give us a ‘spirit of fear’ then who did?
Entire global family units have become stricken by fear unleashed through COVID-19 that has laid to waste many human lives. This invisible enemy has become staple news on both main stream and alternative media. Social media have all been swamped with horrifying details of dead bodies, urns, global statistics of the affected and fallen. Even political leaders and staff manning hospitals have been seriously affected by this pandemic. While some people remain skeptic about COVIDs true nature, impact and origin, everyone agrees that something threatening has impacted humanity. Not only have we expanded our vocabulary to include fancy terms such as ‘social distancing, flattening the curve and N95 mask; we have now adjusted our movements and human relation dynamics to include ‘self isolation, shelter in place and rapid testing.’ Many who have had themselves checked into hospitals as precautionary measures never made it back home or say goodbye to love ones before transitioning. The fear of death has never been so real and terrifying on such a massive scale, thanks to the impact of global internet and news coverage.
The fear triggered by this disease seems to have ignited a wave of insanity across some nations to the point that civil liberties seem to have flown through the door. For example, it has been heartbreaking to see several videos of police using batons to randomly beat people who violated stay at home laws, no question asked and disregarding the fact that some people actually live on these streets. Images of homeless being hauled off to a cell for not being at ‘home’ highlighted the absurdities unearthed by COVID 19. The extent of the COVID madness was played out in a Facebook post which showed a man’s slashed face or throat covered with bandages and wearing a blood soaked T shirt. His crime was that he sneezed after using seasoning to prepare meat for cooking. Another man who sneezed while riding on a bus was promptly beaten by a crowd that disregarded the need to socially distance themselves from this individual. The lack of empathy and poor reasoning ability of these perpetrators point to the sobering fact that fear left unchecked can lead to volatile situations and utter mayhem.
In this regard, I must say that many world leaders including President Donald Trump have become the buffer between the mayhem and total imprisonment of the human spirit. Kudos to those political and health leaders who remained calm and positive even when hell has broken loose within the walls of many countries. Fear is an unclean spirit that should not usurp caution. We should be wise and cautious, not fearful as we get to understand this virus. A state of hopelessness may well have been the factor that induced some of these deaths. Just listening to the daily media blitz about projected millions to die was enough to send anyone without hope into hypertensive cardiac arrest if there is such a medical term. Fear can become the disease.
Elsewhere, the selfishness and indiscipline of some millennial have been on display, more so in countries that embrace ‘notions of personal liberty and free speech.’ Human ideals of ‘total’ freedom are being shaken at the core in both young and mature democracies. Some wear these civic convictions as badges of honor yet disregard the fact that freedom comes with responsibility and their actions should not affect the well-being of others. Yes, the fear factor has been let loose giving media houses both mainstream and social media platforms users a field day in fearmongering. Meanwhile, some countries with a firmer grip on citizens’ ideals of civil liberty seem to have simply put full control mechanism in place and tightened the noose on its youth population to contain COVID-19’s rampage and ‘flatten the curve’ of its mortality rate within reasonable time limits. Other nations, use targeted strategies that adjusted as the COVID 19 conditions changed within their borders. It would be interesting to see how the mortality rate will add up among countries based on the fear level projected to each population through policies and COVID rhetoric within each country. Personally, I would expect countries who acted early and who tried to maintain a modicum of calmness and rationality to end up ahead of their counterparts.
From my ramble so far, it is clear that the fear factor does not allow for rationality in the bid to counter an attack on the Corona virus aka COVID-19. Through fear, this virus has veered us into i-so-relationships with family, friends, countrymen and God. As usual, I choose to go to the MAN-U-AL to direct my thoughts on this because I think the words of God can address many current problems of humanity that are spiritual in their origins. Also, I have come to the conclusion that despite skepticism by many, the Bible was intended to be a manual for relationships with self, others and the environment. If God were to be brought back into human relationships, we would operate from seats of gratitude, praise and peace and know when to let go and let God, both as individuals and nations.
I started out with the comforting words that fear did not come from God, instead, it came from that old adversary to the Adamic race, in the form of Corona to ‘kill, steal and destroy.’ As such, in 2 Chronicle 7:14 God admonishes that:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”King James Version (KJV)
Here, we have a complete recipe to the global pandemic right there in Chronicles. How many countries have called for a national day of fasting, repentance and prayer for the healing of their land? When the Israelite in the Old Testament gave way to disobedience and idolatry, they knew to turn from their wicked ways once they experienced God’s wrath against them. Usually, leaders such as Kings would speak to God directly or hear from God through the prophets and priests. Do leadership seek God’s face for guidance today? Has the fear factor diverted their attention from God to that of serving mammon? What happened to that spiritual gift call faith? If we believe God to restore or save the economy, He will. Instead of predicting and preparing for the number of deaths manifold through fear- driven utterances and diabolic predictions, we should speak life and celebrate restoration of health. What is the purpose of telling masses of people they will die from something they cannot see if there is nothing that can be done to eliminate it.? Why not give precautions without computer generated models of mass death of humans? How can a human fitted with a spirit rule out what God has to say about this global fear driven pandemic? Did He not say man was made in his image? If He is spirit, wouldn’t this spiritual likeness mean that spiritual resolutions exist when faced with situations humans cannot readily solve or understand?
I have deliberately posed many questions to remind myself to think and consider other options to fear that can provide entrances to other situations not in the interest of ordinary people. Yes, it is okay to get wary and even cautious especially when God is not invited into the equation and choices decided for the masses who are without full transparency. Hopelessness seems to have set in at the get go while riding on this spirit of fear behind the virus. As such, the fervor to find a vaccine has totally eclipsed the fact that in Genesis where human genetics were perfected and genealogy began, God left a blueprint for sustaining the body. In Genesis 1:26-30, not only was man made from the earth, but he was given stewardship of the Earth and told that the herbs from he earth should sustain both man and beast alike.
Have we stopped to consider that in the United States and elsewhere where people were told to stay home and not come to hospitals unless their lungs were visibly under extreme stress, people have found ways and means to ward off and prevent flu like symptoms that would otherwise be labeled COVID19 had they gone to an emergency room? Can we rule out the fact that simple cures and preventative measures might exist to eliminate this virus outside of laboratories? Indeed, this would defeat any need for injecting strange entities into the human body. It would be interesting to know the number of COVID deaths that happened at home.
Vaccination should be a last resort for illnesses and they should be carefully developed and safely tested before even thinking of mass administration to any population. People should know what the composition of these vaccines are to anticipate and prevent adverse reactions and fatalities. Humans originated from the humus in which herbs that feed and heal them grow. The fear induced environment seems to have altered perception and commonsense and released individual choices about one’s body to bureaucratic networks whose agendas seem blurred in the mayhem of fear.
Pride can be a stumbling block preventing God from instilling grace in people and nations. Recently, a known leader met in a prayer group that the media published and he was taken to task for doing so. Satan cannot have his way with prayerful believers without permission granted. With Job, he had to ask permission. Sin can cause a breach or open doors to Satan giving legal right to his destructive penetration. Have we become too pompous as nations and individuals to seek God? Have we opened doors to Satan through idolatry, persecution of the powerless and innocent, self pride, perversion, bloodletting and other immoralities? The manual says we should repent from our wicked ways and seek God’s face so he can move heaven to heal and restore the land. During this social distancing lull, we need to individually seek God’s mercy for our nations and the world. With faith, all things are possible.
To the unbeliever, first you must recognize that you did not appear in this world of your own doing. You are a spiritual being and spiritual matters demand that you use spiritual weapons, not just your five senses to address them and understand your spirit man. There is an answer to every problem in the man-u-al we call the holy Bible. With humility and believing in the divine power of the Creator, you will get God’s mercy. The word in John 12:32 says:
“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”
Are we lifting him up through obedience, humility and praise or have we surrendered to the deception of fear. Believers, where is the power and sound mind given to us through Christ who is high and lifted up? If you accept Christ you are given the power to face darkness and fear. Luke 10:19 reminds us:
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
We are also reminded that it is not a physical war with a virus called Corona or COVID-19 that the world is up against. Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Prayer is the spiritual line of communication to combat fear. Due to social distancing, we have to seek God through prayer in our own quiet space, not letting up to fear or media distraction. To battle this war, each has to put on the whole armor of faith and seek after righteousness to dispel humanity of the fear factor behind COVID-19. Ephesian 6:11 states we should:
‘Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.’ what does the armory of God look like? Let’s read.
Ephesians 6:11-24 King James Version (KJV)
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:
22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.
23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.King James Version (KJV)
My parting words are: when everything seems like a free fall into despair, go back to the source. From Genesis to Revelation every word is relevant in these times. Do not allow hopelessness and fear to take prominence in your situation right now or in the weeks ahead. Seek God, repent and use your authority as your weapon. As children of God’s Kingdom you are equipped and ready to break the tentacles of fear on you, your family, your nation and the world. Spend less time sleeping at nights when evil is busy plotting and destroying; fast and pray having the full armor of God. Blessings and love. Stay strong.
